South East Regional Forum

Location: South East

The South East Regional Forum is for young people  from Cardiff, Pontypool, Newport, Blaenau Gwent and Merthyr Tydfil.

We’ve held 5 events so far and the young people’s planning group helps us organise the forums. We have a great  partnership with First Campus who have provided meeting space, activities and opportunities for young people to find out about university life and what courses are available

For the first time in 2016 young Roma people from EU countries attended the forum  – they were invited by the Equal Forum young people who have made links between their school in Pontypool and a school in Newport.

At the most recent forum in Newport in October the young people took part in Q & A sessions with Welsh Assembly Members John Griffiths and Steffan Lewis and met with Jeff Cuthbert the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent. Young people led the icebreakers using our Rights Tool Kit and chose from Kipsy Basket making, street dance and beat box in the afternoon. Big thanks to all our partners and everyone who ran workshops. Here’s Bronwyn’s comment on the day and you can read more about what she thought of the event on the New Leaf Forum page here

“In the morning was about having our voices heard and I think they all listened to our opinions, although the afternoon was fun we all was dancing, boxing, and playing dodgeball.”
