For our Parents
The idea behind this website is:
- To give Gypsy and Traveller young people a chance to talk to other Gypsy and Traveller young people about the activities they have been involved in.
- To work together across Wales to try to make things better for Gypsy and Traveller young people.
- To celebrate the achievements of Gypsy and Traveller young people and encourage them to feel proud of who they are and what they do.
- To encourage Gypsy and Traveller young people to support each other through any difficulties that they face.
The website is aimed at young people aged 11-18.
We have lots of safety rules in place to make sure no-one is put in danger. There is a guide to staying safe on the internet, the chat forum is moderated to ensure no personal details are given out, and we ensure that we have consent from the young people and their parents before any media is put up on the site. We have only linked to games on other websites that we are happy are safe for children and young people to use.
The website is designed to be used primarily in the setting of local Youth Forums, and there will be adults supervising these groups and supporting young people in using the site.
We have also worked with young people to write rules for the website.
"It would be a good idea for Travellers to know what is going on in different parts of the country. Like where there are brick laying courses. And that it is alright to talk. It’ll be good for young travellers to take a lead. Not all of them want to, but for those that do, they’ll take the lead and speak up. They’ve got a right to say what they want to do. I’m not worried about safety – my boys are on the internet all the time anyway."
